Report Card ; South Africa v Pakistan, 1st ODI 2021


Pakistan have tour to Pakistan for three match ODI series as well as four match T20I series. First ODI of the series played on 2nd April at Centurion. South Africa was playing with their full strength squad against mighty Pakistan.

Pakistan’s captain Babar Azam won the toss and elected to bowl first while South Africa was playing with their new captain Temba Bavuma. Temba Bavuma had replaced Quinton de Kock as captain in South Africa’s limited over format.

Pakistan was playing with their settled opening pair of Fakhar Zaman and Imam ul haq. Danish Aziz was on his international debut today. He got an opportunity after his brilliant performance in PSL last season.

South African openers got the good start in powerplay but not converted into big. South Africa lost their first four wickets in 14.2 overs. Rassie van der Dussen was the only positive from South African camp. He scored a brilliant and tricky hundred. He smashed 123 runs in 134 balls alongwith 10 fours and 2 sixes.

South Africa managed to score 273 runs on 6 wickets loss.

Kagiso Rabada had knocked Fakhar Zaman in his second over of the spell. Pakistan have lost their first wicket early. But masterclass of Babar Azam helped them to reach 186 runs in 31.4 overs. Babar Azam had scored another ODI hundred. He smashed 103 runs in 104 balls. While Imam ul haq scored a brilliant knock of 70 runs.

Suddenly South African bowlers managed to make a comeback. Anrich Nortje bowled a fantastic spell, grabbed four consecutive wickets in four consecutive overs.

An exciting finish in Centurion, Andile Phehlukwayo and Anrich Nortje bowled brilliantly in the end but Mohammad Rizwan, Shahbad Khan managed to bring a win for Pakistan.
