ENG v IND, 1st Test 2021 report ; first match of WTC-23 is ended in draw


England to face India for five match Test series starting from today. First test of this series to be played at the beautiful stadium of Trent Bridge located in Nottingham. First edition of world Test Championship won by New Zealand and second edition to start from today. Final of second WTC cycle will be played in 2023.

The nail biting five match test series will be counted in world test championship’s points table. Team India’s opener Shubman Gill and England’s allrounder Ben Stokes will not take part in this series.

First match of second WTC cycle is ended in draw. Play has been abandoned in Trent Bridge without a ball bowled.

Jasprit Bumrah picked five-for while Joe Root smashed hundred

England’s captain and their all time test run getter Joe Root smashed his 21st century. England was struggling when their openers were out for cheap scores. Joe Root batted aggressively throughout his inning.

Jasprit Bumrah was the breakthrough man for team India. Jasprit Bumrah took an important wickets of Joe Root after his hundred. After first inning success Jasprit Bumrah grabbed a test Fifer, sixth of his test career. This was one of the brilliant spells that he have bowled.

Team India’s opener survived 10.5 overs in the last difficult session. Stuart Broad brought the first breakthrough for England, India’s last inning top scorer KL Rahul departs on 26. Cheteshwar Pujara smashed some handy boundaries as team India finished their day four on 52 with 9 wickets in hand.

End of day three : Ollie Robinson got five but still India is ahead

After losing four quick wickets yesterday, team India covered it on day three of first test match between England and India. Ravindra Jadeja, KL Rahul and Jasprit Bumrah added some important contribution. KL Rahul is just 16 shorts to his century while Ravindra Jadeja scored a quick fifty. Jasprit Bumrah added some important contribution at last if inning with his crucial 28 runs.

Team India’s batters added 78 runs for last three wickets. Some expectional batting display from team India’s lowers order especially when Shardul Thakur gone for a duck. Ollie Robinson got his first five wicket haul while Jimmy Anderson took four wickets.

Rain played some hide and seek game with players, some drizzles forced to call off day three. If England batteted for a long then this test match must be ended in draw, now it’s depends on England’s batter how long they can survive.

Rain and Jimmy Anderson played an important role on day two

Team India’s new opening pair Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul were too good. They posted 97 runs opening partnership which is second by Indian openers in SENA (South Africa, New Zealand, Australia and England) countries. Rohit hadn’t control his instinct, he trapped by Ollie Robinson with a short delivery. While KL Rahul on other end was looking very compact and delivering best on his test opening opportunity.

Jimmy Anderson, highest international wicket taker in current bowlers removed Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli on back to back deliveries. Rohit Sharma’s wicket was the big breakthrough for team India. Ajinkya Rahane dismissed by Jonny Bairstow with an outstanding throw. Team India need to capitalise a big lead for secon inning. They have to batting long as many as two to three sessions on day three. Roll of Kl Rahul and Rishabh now increased in this match. They have to bat long on day three.

Jasprit Bumrah showed his class again, he took four wickets including four maiden overs. England’s skipper Joe Root played an outstanding inning but he couldn’t hit more as Shardul Thakur removed him. England was in good before Jonny Bairstow’s wicket, they were on 138-3 before Mohammad Shami strikes. Shardul Thakur followed him, he bowled a brilliant two wicket over.

Indian pace attack shined in first inning of this test series. Bowled out England for just 183, it’s not an easy task. But, Indian quicks did it very well. Mohammad Shami ended his spell with three wickets while Mohammad Siraj and Shardul Thakur got one and two wickets respectively.

A new opening pair for team India in test cricket, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul survived last few overs. England bowled 13 overs at the end of the day one. Team India haven’t lost a single wicket during the day one.

Toss update : England opted to bat first

According to Virat Kohli, Ishant Sharma has some niggles. Mohammad Siraj to play his first test in England. Team India is going with four pacers alongwith on spinners, Ravindra Jadeja. England will open with Dom Sibley and Rory Burns.
